Lava theme has custom homepage.
You can create Introduction / Welcome block just below slider. You can also create beautiful 1/3 features blocks on homepage.

But if you want to add more content on homepage, follow below steps.
Step 1:
Navigate to: Administration >> Structure >> Blocks and click Add block
Step 2:
Create a new block with some content. And set location of this block to Homepage Content region and click Save blocks.
Done!!
